Future Freight Networks : Yearbook 2018
Barangaroo is one of the most ambitious urban renewal projects in the world today, embodying world-class design excellence and sustainability. The 22 hectare, $6+ billion Barangaroo precinct will help redefine the western edge of Sydney Harbour, and be a lasting legacy for future generations. Barangaroo will provide space for over 24,000 permanent jobs, generate approximately $2 billion per annum to the New South Wales economy and provide over 11 hectares of newly accessible public domain. Owned by the NSW Government, and managed by Barangaroo Delivery Authority, Barangaroo is fast becoming one of Australia’s busiest commercial, retail and tourism precincts, with all commercial loading docks (90+ bays) located underground, accessible via a single entry/exit ramp, and no space for queuing. International Towers is located on the foreshore at Barangaroo, and is one of the world’s most sustainable commercial precincts, and is home to some of Australia’s most respected and innovative firms, including Gilbert + Tobin, Westpac Group, KPMG, Swiss Re and Lendlease. In the first stage of development, MobileDOCK was selected for its Smart City booking service, to manage congestion and ensure authorised carriers are able to easily request bookings and have them automatically approved, making efficient use of the new loading dock. All deliveries to Barangaroo and International Towers’ dock require an appointment. The benefits from this approach have accrued in many areas, including... Financial • Barangaroo South has maximised its use of premium real estate, translating into increased residential and commercial space. Operational • Drivers are provided with specific times and guaranteed access for deliveries. This prevents congestion on city streets while drivers look for loading zones, saving the carriers and their customers’ time and money. • Reduction of operational risk associated with many truck movements in a high traffic zone. • Direct communications platform to the delivery community regarding site operations including site lockdowns and/or emergency incident management. Sustainability • Queuing has been eliminated which also has dramatically reduced truck idle time at street level, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and provides enhanced precinct liveability. • Over 95% of appointments approved automatically • 200,000+ appointments performed • Average vehicle dwell time 20 minutes • Congestion eliminated • Increased site security - all deliveries authorised in advance of arrival Sydney City looking towards Darling Harbour and Barangaroo Case Study International Towers, Barangaroo, Sydney City Precinct Congestion Management 503335A_Bestrane I 2389.indd 1 1/5/18 12:22 pm
